The Eritrean Community Centre has just embarked on a project to help Eritreans that are new to the UK. The project which is fully funded and supported by Awards For All aims to help them have a good chance to integrate through tailored training to ensure that they access to public and other services that will help improve their quality of life, integrate to the local community and become productive members of society.
The programme is being delivered every Saturday afternoons between 1 and 4pm at the ECC.
The project delivers the following six components, to deliver a successful programme in the 2017 – 2018 academic year:
Advisory service: to provide group or one-to-one advice; immigration, housing, health education etc;
English for Eritreans: oral and written lessons to be delivered by Tigrinya speaking tutor (s);
Citizenship induction: UK cultural awareness and advice lessons;
Cooking: lessons tailored for youth so they are able to cook for themselves
IT Induction: training in both Tigrinya and English how to use a computer and navigate websites;
Personal development workshops: how to apply for HE and FE courses, CV writing skills, assistance with job application, interview techniques etc.
